Project Name: Exploring benefits and challenges of peer support for people with disability in peer support organisations: A co-production project
What is the project about?
Peer support is about people with disability supporting each other.
Our research is exploring the benefits and challenges of peer support for people with disability in peer support organisations such as the Community Disability Alliance Hunter (CDAH) and the Diversity Disability Alliance (DDA).
We are a team of researchers, some of whom have lived experience disability and peer support.
Why is the research being done?
The Community Disability Alliance Hunter (CDAH) and the Diversity Disability Alliance (DDA) have been funded to provide peer support and peer mentoring for people with disability (peers) as well as peer support training.
We want to learn more about peer support for people with disability to try to improve people’s experience in this space.
A little bit about the study…
We want to talk to people with disability who:
“Can I take part?”
You can take part if…
We will ask about:
What is involved?
“What do I have to do?”
First, there is an Information Sheet (download bellow) to read over. Think if it’s something you would be interested in. There is a contact number on the Information Sheet to call if you want to ask questions, or if you want to take part.
There is a Consent Form to fill out if you are interested in being part of the study. Please contact us to do this. The study runs for 3 years. You can stop participating at any time. You will not be in trouble if you do not want to continue anymore.
If you need to talk to someone after participating, we can provide you with someone to talk to (staff from CDAH and DDA or People with Disability Australia).
For questions or more information then please contact Carrie Hayter on 0415 348 057 or via email on carriehayter@gmail.com

A little bit about the study…
We want to talk to people with disability who:
- Have done training that teaches people about peer support
- Are involved with peer support
- Are people with disability who give peer support to people in their community
- Are people with disability who provide peer support to other people in the disability community
- Are people with disability who receive peer support from people in their community or from other people with disability
“Can I take part?”
You can take part if…
- You are a person with disability
- You have attended any peer support event organised by the Community Disability Alliance Hunter (CDAH) and the Diversity Disability Alliance (DDA)
We will ask about:
- If you liked peer support and why
- How things changed for you because of peer support
- What things did not change for you
- What do you like about peer support
- What don’t you like about peer support
- How do you feel about having a disability
